Medical Humanitarian Programme MEDEVAC
MEDEVAC is a permanent health humanitarian programme of the Czech Republic, which since 1993 has focused on providing medical care to vulnerable groups of the population in regions affected by migration, burdened by large numbers of refugees, or in areas where specialised medical care is not available. Treatment is provided free of charge and exclusively to civilians who are in a serious medical condition or whose health condition does not allow them to lead a dignified life.
The MEDEVAC Programme focuses on patients for whom medical procedures provided by Czech doctors represent a substantial improvement in their health condition (life-saving treatment or a significant improvement in quality of life); however, it does not focus on patients with conditions that require long-term intensive treatment.
The main activity of the programme is the deployment of Czech medical teams to countries where specialised healthcare is not available. At the same time, MEDEVAC Programme contributes to the long-term strengthening of local healthcare infrastructure, in particular through professional training of foreign medical personnel, support for projects and the provision of material assistance.
