Targeted funding

Targeted funding is provided through security research programmes, which are implemented either through grants (open calls) or procurement (solutions to specifically defined security research needs).

Under these security research programmes; funding is awarded only to projects that are expected to produce at least one new applied research and development outcome. The results of these projects have made significant contributions to the development or substantial improvement of:

  • forensic investigation methods used by the Police of the Czech Republic and the Fire Rescue Service;

  • the prevention and investigation of cybercrime, including the prediction of cyberattacks;

  • the protection of the population against terrorist threats, particularly in the areas of identifying and protecting soft targets and biometric identification technologies;

  • mitigating the consequences of natural disasters (such as fires and floods) and advancing crisis management as an integrated system;

  • the detection of hazardous chemical and biological substances, as well as explosives;

  • radiation monitoring across the Czech Republic;

  • the protection and security of critical infrastructure;

  • environmental security and environmental protection through risk mapping and the prevention of potential threats.
     

The following targeted funding programmes are currently being implemented:

Security Research Program of the Czech Republic 2021-2026: Development, Testing and Evaluation of New Security Technologies (SECTECH)

  • This program is primarily focused on utilizing the potential of small and medium-sized enterprises to contribute to the development of innovative security technologies and to remove barriers preventing the practical implementation of technological solutions. Strengthening cooperation between private companies and research institutions represents one of the program’s key objectives.

 

Open Calls in Security Research 2023-2029 (OPSEC)

  • The main objective of the Program is to systematically stimulate and develop the interest of the research and innovation sectors in addressing the security challenges facing modern society, thereby creating a foundation for the development of competitive security innovations.

 

Security Research Program for State Needs 2022–2027 (SecPro)

  • This program focuses on addressing predefined needs of state authorities responsible for maintaining internal security in the Czech Republic. Funding is primarily directed toward solutions enabling more effective research in sensitive areas, analytical activities that expand knowledge and support improvements in security, and the integration of existing technological solutions into the systems and platforms used by state authorities. The program builds upon the successful Security Research Program for State Needs 2016–2021.

 

Strategic Support for the Development of Security Research 2019–2025 (IMPAKT 2)

  • This program creates conditions for the effective utilization and further development of the full potential of the academic and public research sectors, which provide long-term and synergistic support for the Czech security system through research activities. The program aims to integrate thematically interconnected research projects carried out by selected institutions, contribute to the further development of highly specialized research teams in the field of security research, and support activities that establish and strengthen international cooperation.
